Heather Johnston

An integrative, trauma-informed approach drawing on a variety of techniques, all grounded in your story and tailored to each client.

If you’re feeling like something in your life isn’t working for you, whether it’s a specific issue or just a general sense of unease, I am here to create a safe space for you to explore, heal, and grow in a way that does work for you. I am dedicated to helping clients navigate life’s challenges, whether you can clearly identify your concerns or whether you know what you are doing is no longer working, but you do not know what to do next.

I work collaboratively with individuals to uncover and clarify the issues they are facing and create strategies to help, whether it be anxiety or depression, trauma, relationship or family concerns, parenting, career challenges, self-esteem and confidence, emotional regulation or other issues. We do this by examining your story. It is through your story that we explore how your issues are impacting your life. As a therapist, I take an integrative trauma informed approach to counseling, drawing from a variety of techniques grounded in your story. I believe in tailoring my approach to each client’s unique needs and goals.

I have worked with a wide variety of people and mental health concerns, from the in-patient psychiatric hospital setting of Austin State Hospital to those of individuals in an out-patient setting. Prior to becoming a mental health counselor, I worked in the corporate world, including substantial time at an executive level and for two large law firms. The broad experience that I gain in my first career informs my counseling. I have worked with a wide range of people from many nationalities, cultures, ethnicities, religions, and life experience.

Working in high-pressure roles, I can appreciate the various pressures faced by my clients, including professionally, in relationships and as a parent. I enjoy working with clients from all walks of life in an inclusive and supportive manner. I am a LGBTQIA+ ally. My practice is founded on the principles of empathy, respect, and non-judgment, and I am committed to maintaining strict confidentiality and ethical standards in all of my work.

What supervision means here

An LPC Associate is fully qualified and licensed, and is completing the supervised hours Texas requires before full licensure. Heather's work is reviewed regularly by Reem Glasco, LPC-S, which means two clinicians are thinking about your case rather than one.

This practice does not provide emergency care. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. For a mental health crisis, call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Start with Heather

Free 20-minute consultation, and it commits you to nothing. If you are not sure whether Heather is the right fit, say so in the first message, or ask the practice and you will be pointed at whoever is.
