Questions people ask first
Short version: LPC supervision is $425 a month for three individual hours and one group hour, online statewide. EMDR consultation is $185 an hour with an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. Therapy is $240 for a 50-minute online session with Reem, or less with the practice's associates. Everything starts with a free consult. The practice is in Austin, Texas, with in-person trail and equine options for adults and no office to visit.
Getting started
How do I become a client?
Email the practice to request a free 15-minute consult. If it is a fit, you receive client forms and we schedule. If it is not, you get a referral rather than a polite brush-off.
Where is Finding Balance Counseling located?
The practice is based in Austin, Texas, and works online with clients anywhere in the state. There is no office clients visit: every in-person session happens outdoors, either on a trail in central Texas or with the horses near Dripping Springs. Reem is licensed in Texas and sees clients located anywhere in the state online.
Should I see Reem or one of the associates?
Usually it comes down to availability and fee. Reem keeps a small therapy caseload alongside her supervision and consultation work, at $240 a session. The LPC Associates she supervises have more open calendars and lower fees, including sliding scale, and practice under her supervision.
Who does Reem work with?
Young adults, college-age clients and individual adults, plus LPC Associates and licensed therapists in supervision or consultation. The practice does not work with young children.
What are the office hours?
By appointment. Walk and talk therapy sessions are on Fridays.

Anyone paying out of pocket is entitled to a written Good Faith Estimate before treatment begins.

Yes, for Reem Glasco. She is in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans. The practice's LPC Associates do not take Blue Cross Blue Shield, so sessions with an associate are self-pay.

Do the LPC Associates take Blue Cross Blue Shield too?
No. The associates are independent clinicians under Reem's supervision, each running their own billing, and none of them bills Blue Cross Blue Shield. Sessions with an associate are self-pay, from $100 to $150 depending on the associate, with limited sliding-scale places. Each one is listed with a direct contact route on the associates page.
How much does therapy cost with insurance?
Blue Cross Blue Shield is accepted here, so a BCBS client pays whatever their plan sets as a copay or coinsurance rather than the full session fee. What that comes to depends on your specific plan and deductible, so check your benefits or raise it in the consult. Every other plan is self-pay.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel telehealth appointments at least 24 hours ahead, or an $85 fee may apply. In-person walk therapy is paid in advance and is non-refundable inside 48 hours.
Is there a waitlist for new clients?
Clients who want to join the waitlist book a consult first. The practice's LPC Associates are accepting new clients, including at sliding-scale fees, and usually have openings sooner than Reem does. Trail walk and equine work needs a consult plus one to three online sessions beforehand, and is for adults only.
The work itself
What kind of therapy does Reem practice?
NARM for the patterns formed early in life, Somatic Experiencing for what the nervous system is still holding, and EMDR for specific traumatic material once there is enough stability. IFS-informed and Brainspotting elements are used where parts of a person disagree about the work.
Do you offer sessions outdoors?
Yes. Trail walk and movement sessions run one hour on Fridays in central Texas, for adults only, after a consult plus one to three online sessions. The fee is $125, paid in advance. Walk and talk therapy covers how it works.
Do you work with horses?
Yes. Equine-assisted sessions are available near Dripping Springs, Texas, for clients, for LPC associates in supervision at $60 a session, and as optional training for therapists who want to work with horses themselves.
Understanding the methods
What is somatic therapy?
Somatic therapy is any approach that works with the body's sensations and responses rather than with thoughts alone. The working assumption is that stress and trauma leave the nervous system holding an unfinished response, and that noticing that response directly, in small doses, does what analyzing it cannot. In practice a session tracks sensation, breath, posture and the small movements a threat response never completed. Somatic Experiencing, developed by Dr Peter Levine, is the somatic method used here.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
Partly. EMDR is not usually classed as a somatic therapy, because its core mechanism is memory reprocessing rather than body tracking. But it attends closely to where a memory sits in the body and it pairs naturally with somatic work, which is why both are used in this practice rather than one or the other.
Is somatic therapy evidence based?
The evidence base is real but smaller than for CBT or EMDR, and anyone who tells you it is either proven beyond question or pure invention is overstating their case. What the trials actually show.
Is somatic therapy covered by insurance?
Insurers reimburse psychotherapy sessions by billing code rather than by method, so a somatic session is billed as individual psychotherapy like any other. Blue Cross Blue Shield is accepted here. Under other plans sessions are self-pay at $240 for 50 minutes, and you may be able to claim out-of-network reimbursement.
Why is EMDR so controversial?
The outcomes are not what is disputed. EMDR is recommended for PTSD by the World Health Organization and the American Psychological Association, and trials consistently show it helps. The argument is about why, not whether. What the dismantling studies found.
Is EMDR hypnosis?
No. You stay awake, aware and in control throughout, you can stop at any point, and you remember the session afterwards. Nobody is put into a trance or given suggestions. The eye movements or taps are a dual-attention task, not an induction.
How long does EMDR therapy take?
For a single recent incident, often six to twelve sessions. For developmental trauma laid down over years it is longer, because most of the work is in preparation and stabilization rather than in processing. Reem's emphasis is deliberately on phases one and two, since that is where stalled EMDR usually stalls.
Can EMDR be done virtually?
Yes, and it is the default here. Nothing essential to the protocol needs a shared room. Both you and your therapist must be physically located in Texas during the session, because that is where this practice is licensed. How EMDR runs over video.
Complex PTSD
What are the 17 symptoms of complex PTSD?
There is no official list of 17. That number comes from the DSM-IV criteria for PTSD, which counted 17 symptoms across re-experiencing, avoidance and arousal, and it has been recycled online as though it described complex PTSD. It does not. Complex PTSD is defined in the ICD-11 as the three PTSD clusters plus three further disturbances: difficulty regulating emotion, a persistently negative view of yourself, and difficulty sustaining relationships and feeling close to people. A checklist is not a diagnosis, and a recognizable pattern is worth bringing to an assessment rather than settling in your own head.
What is the difference between PTSD and complex PTSD?
PTSD usually follows an identifiable event or a small number of them. Complex PTSD follows prolonged, repeated exposure that was hard or impossible to escape, often early and often relational. The extra ground it covers is how you relate to yourself and to other people, not just how you respond to reminders of what happened.
Is complex PTSD in the DSM-5?
No. The DSM-5 recognizes PTSD, including a dissociative subtype, but not complex PTSD as a separate diagnosis. The ICD-11, published by the World Health Organization, does. That difference matters mostly for paperwork: in the United States the clinical record and any insurance claim will usually say PTSD.
Does EMDR work for complex PTSD?
It can, with the preparation phases taken seriously. Applied straight to developmental trauma without that groundwork, standard EMDR often floods or flatlines, which is the most common reason people arrive here saying EMDR did not work for them. The IFS-informed version addresses exactly that.
How many EMDR sessions for complex PTSD?
More than the six to twelve typical of single-incident work, and the honest answer is that it depends on how much stabilization is needed first. Rather than committing to a number at the start, the arc is reviewed together as the work goes.
Is complex PTSD a disability?
It can be, depending on how much it limits daily functioning rather than on the label itself. Because complex PTSD is not a separate DSM-5 diagnosis, claims in the United States are generally filed under PTSD. Whether a particular claim succeeds is a question for a treating clinician and someone who handles disability claims, not for a website.
For therapists
How many supervised hours do I need for a Texas LPC?
3,000 clock-hours under a Council-approved supervisor, at least 1,500 of them direct client counseling contact, over no fewer than 18 months, with a minimum of four supervision hours a month and no more than half of your total supervision hours in a group. The licensure guide on this site works through all of it, including the 60-month expiry on your Associate license.
Do you run retreats or training for therapists?
Yes. An annual mindful trail retreat for interns, associates and licensed therapists, equine-assisted sessions and training near Dripping Springs, and periodic ethics continuing education for Texas LPCs. Associates in supervision with Reem are included in the annual retreat.
Are you accepting LPC Associates for supervision?
Places are capped deliberately and open as associates finish, so ask about current availability. Supervision is $425 a month for three individual hours and one group hour, online and statewide in Texas. Applications start with a free 30-minute consult.
Can my agency contract supervision for a short period?
Yes. Three-month contracts are available for associates working within an agency or group practice at $500 a month.
Can you be my EMDR consultant?
Reem is an EMDRIA Approved Consultant. Individual consultation is $185 an hour online, focused on IFS-informed EMDR for phases one and two, and it is free for her own LPC associates.
Do you offer ethics CEUs?
Ethics continuing education for Texas LPCs is offered periodically. Email the practice to ask about the next session.
