Continuing education for Texas counselors
Ethics CEUs
Texas LPCs need 24 hours of continuing education each renewal period, at least 6 of them in ethics. Reem Glasco, LPC-S, offers ethics continuing education in two formats: one CEU online, or two CEUs in person, held on a trail walk among horses near Dripping Springs. The subject is secondary trauma: what this work does to the people who do it, and where the ethical obligations actually sit.
Why secondary trauma, for an ethics hour
Ethics continuing education is often taught as a tour of the rules: boundaries, record keeping, dual relationships, the things you already know and will be reminded of once every two years. That version is survivable and forgettable.
Secondary trauma gets at the part of ethics that actually goes wrong in practice. Competence is an ethical obligation, and competence degrades when a clinician is depleted in ways they have stopped noticing. Most ethical failures in this field are not decisions made badly; they are attention that was no longer there.
So the session looks at what accumulates across a caseload, how it shows up before you can name it, what the obligation to monitor your own fitness to practice means concretely, and when it requires you to do something about it.
Walking it, rather than sitting through it
The two-CEU version is held outdoors, walking, among horses. That is not a gimmick attached to the content; it is the content. A room full of therapists discussing depletion while sitting still for two hours is its own small joke. Walking changes what people say, and horses respond to the state of the person in front of them rather than the credential.
It also means you leave having practiced the thing rather than having heard about it.
Who it is for
- Texas LPCs filling the 6 required ethics hours per renewal period. Read what Texas requires at renewal.
- LPC Associates, who need the same hours
- Clinicians who suspect they are running on empty and would rather find out on purpose

Questions about the CEUs
How many ethics CEUs do Texas LPCs need?
At least 6 hours of ethics within the 24 hours of continuing education required each renewal period. Passing the jurisprudence exam counts as one of those ethics hours. LPC Supervisors need a further 6 hours of supervision-specific CE, counted inside the same 24.
Do these hours count toward the approved-provider half?
Yes. Since 1 January 2024 at least half of your 24 hours must come from a provider listed in 22 TAC §681.140(f), and subsection (f)(6) lists a licensee with supervisor status. Reem holds LPC Supervisor status in Texas, license 66562, so these hours fill that half rather than only the free half.
There is no approval number to look up, for this or any other Texas CE: under §681.140(i) the Council does not pre-approve providers or individual courses. The licensee stays responsible for their own documentation in an audit, so keep the certificate.
Is the online session self-study?
Worth asking of any online CE. Under §681.140(h)(4), self-study is work you do alone, reading for example, and is capped at one hour per renewal period. A recorded course taken as part of a CE provider's organized offering, with a certificate at the end, is not self-study and counts in full. Reem's online session is delivered live.
What does the trail walk session involve physically?
Walking at conversation pace on a trail, with time standing among horses. It is not strenuous and there is no riding, but it is outdoors in central Texas, so it is weather dependent and gets rescheduled rather than pushed through.
Can LPC Associates attend?
Yes. Associates carry the same continuing education requirements as fully licensed LPCs and are welcome at both formats. Associates supervised by Reem are included in the annual retreat as part of their supervision.
How do I register?
Email info@findingbalancecounselingpllc.com and ask about the next session. Dates and fees are not yet published here, so email is currently the only route.
How can I learn more?
The frequently asked questions page collects everything that is not specific to one service: fees and insurance, how the methods differ, complex PTSD, what Texas requires of a counselor, and how to start. If the answer is not there either, a free consult is the quickest way to get one.

Therapy consults are fifteen minutes. Supervision and EMDR consultation consults are thirty. Both are free and commit you to nothing.
