Depression therapy in Texas

Reem Glasco, LPC-S, works with depression, flatness and the procrastination that does not respond to discipline in adults and young adults across Texas. Depression is treated as an adaptation with a history rather than a mood to be argued with, using NARM, Somatic Experiencing and IFS-informed EMDR. Sessions are 50 minutes, self-pay, online anywhere in Texas, with Blue Cross Blue Shield accepted. The practice's LPC Associates see clients at lower fees, including sliding scale, and usually sooner.

Depression as an adaptation, not a defect

Flatness is often what is left after a system has spent years managing something it could not change. Shutting down was the available option once, and it worked. NARM starts from that question rather than from diagnosis: where did I learn this, how was it serving me, is it still?

That matters because the usual instruction, try harder and do more, lands on the part of you that already believes the problem is a lack of effort. Self-criticism is not the cure for depression; it is frequently one of its engines.

Where the flatness sits on top of developmental trauma, the work looks like the trauma page. Where it alternates with a body that will not settle, see anxiety.

What people bring here

  • Flatness rather than sadness, and guilt about not being sadder.
  • Doing the things and feeling nothing about any of them.
  • Procrastination that is not laziness and does not respond to discipline.
  • A sense that something is off that you cannot point at.
  • Functioning well in public and collapsing in private.
  • Life transitions that took the floor out: graduating, leaving, arriving, becoming a parent, losing someone.
  • Self care for mothers, which usually starts with permission.

On procrastination

Procrastination that survives every productivity system is rarely about time management. More often a part of you is holding the brake for a reason, and the reason is worth knowing before it gets overridden. IFS-informed work gets to know the protector rather than pushing past it.

Pacing

Stabilization comes first: acute stress, ongoing stress, feeling overwhelmed, loss. Only with that footing does processing work become useful rather than destabilizing.

Questions about depression therapy

What if I feel nothing rather than sad?

Numbness is one of the more common presentations here and it is worth taking as seriously as sadness. It usually means a system turned the volume down on everything to survive something, and the work is restoring range rather than chasing a mood.

Is this depression or burnout?

The distinction matters less than what maintains it. Both tend to involve a nervous system that has been running on override for a long time. What we look at is what the shutdown is protecting and what would have to be true for it to relax.

Do you work with procrastination?

Yes, and specifically the kind that has outlasted every system you have tried. The working assumption is that a part of you is holding the brake for a reason worth knowing, rather than that you need better discipline.

Do I need antidepressants?

That is a question for a prescriber. Reem is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, not a physician, and does not prescribe or advise on medication. Therapy and medication are not alternatives to each other, and plenty of people do both.

I have been in therapy before and it did not help. Why would this be different?

It might not be, and that is worth saying in the consult. What is different here is the lens: body-based and developmental rather than insight-led, on the view that understanding your history and changing nothing is a common and frustrating place to get stuck.

What if I am thinking about ending my life?

This practice does not provide emergency or crisis care. Call 911 if you are in immediate danger, or call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Once you are safe, a consult here can be a next step rather than the first one.

How can I learn more?

The frequently asked questions page collects everything that is not specific to one service: fees and insurance, how the methods differ, complex PTSD, what Texas requires of a counselor, and how to start. If the answer is not there either, a free consult is the quickest way to get one.

Therapy consults are fifteen minutes. Supervision and EMDR consultation consults are thirty. Both are free and commit you to nothing.
